Tehama County Businesses… Be Part of the Broadband Solution!

In rural Northern California there is a critical need for dependable broadband to serve business, telehealth, distance education, economic/workforce development and emergency services communication. A Business Broadband Survey and CalSPEED Internet Usage Study is underway in Tehama County between now and July 30, and participation from businesses is being sought.

More about the project: In conjunction with the California Public Utilities Commission, the Geographical Information Center (GIC) at CSU, Chico*  is collecting important data from rural businesses to prove the case that improved broadband service is desperately needed, and to show that in some areas, businesses are not receiving the speeds that their carriers are advertising.   By completing the Business Broadband Survey and downloading the CalSPEED application at, businesses will be confirming or refuting carrier-supplied information and helping provide a more accurate description of coverage in California.

1. COMPLETE THE SURVEY! Chime in about your business broadband issues by completing the Survey at  Your participation before July 30th is appreciated.

2. DOWNLOAD THE CalSPEED application at to your computer and run it multiple times daily at your business between now and July 30th, 2018 to measure your internet speed.   Speed information is automatically sent to the CPUC.  The  process is safe, confidential,  and no other personal data is collected from or about you.   If you have difficulties downloading, please contact Alice Patterson at

3. STAY UP-TO-DATE ON THE ISSUE THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA: “Like” the Northeast and Upstate California Connect Consortia Facebook Page @NorcalBroadband and Follow efforts on Twitter @NorcalBroadband

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?  Near-term plans include providing the data collected to the CPUC that is expected to result in additional resources for the area, leading to better access to faster broadband.
